Operating System (OS) for mobile devices developed by Microsoft. It links to its desktop counterpart from Windows 8.

Windows Mobile versions

The original Windows Mobile OS was based on Kernel CE and was created for the family of mobile devices from Microsoft, including their hand held pocket PCs and mobile phones. The original version lasted until Windows 8.

The nex version was Windows Phone (WP) now discontinued. It was a series of mobile operating systems for smartphones meant to replace Windows Mobile and Zune. Windows Phone featured a new user interface derived from the Metro design language. Windows Phone existed between 2010 and 2015

Right after that, Microsoft launched Windows 10 Mobile, a completely different version marketed as a Windows 10 Desktop counterpart. It lasted from 2015 to January 2020.

Due to low market share and financial results, Microsoft discontinued all further versions and retired from mobile market altogether, despite some versions about Android based device for the Microsoft Surface family of products.
